Forest Quest – www.forestquest.co.uk

Forest Quest is run by husband and wife team Andrew and Kath and I saw them recently at their stand at a village fair where they were toasting marshmallows over a campfire and teaching youngsters to whittle all manner of things. It really struck me how passionate they were about what they were doing and how they really believed in their philosophy that children (and indeed adults – they are available to run corporate and adult parties!) develop valuable life-skills through meaningful and achievable activities. They have all kinds of ideas for children’s parties which could include:

  • Woodland games
  • Shelter building
  • Fire lighting
  • Woodland crafts
  • Open fire cooking
  • Camouflage
  • Treasure hunt

They will happily combine any activities with a party tea which can be cooked over the camp fire or provided by yourself.

Log Heights  – www.logheights.co.uk

Log Heights are based in the grounds of Ripley Castle near Harrogate which is a wonderful setting for a children’s party. They run all kinds of ropes course activities and specialise in childrens’ adventure parties for the over 8’s. The activities at Log Heights look incredibly exciting and it would be worth booking a party to have a go yourself! I love the idea of getting the kids together in a fabulous outdoor setting and getting them work together as a team. It would certainly be the party everyone was talking about in the school playground.

The price for 1.5 hours is £165 for 9 children or 2 hours at £220 for 12 children (ideally over the age of 12, for concentration purposes) which isn’t bad when you consider the alternative options at a similar price.

To keep costs down you can bring your own picnic and spend the rest of the day in the grounds at Ripley Castle for half price entry or you can purchase ready-made party boxes for £5 (these can be purchased on the day) and get free entry into Ripley Castle.

Another option is an exclusive use of their tea room at Ripley at 5 ‘O clock, providing banners, balloons and platters of party food costing £70 for 9 children, £95 for 12 children.
