Valentines day – fancy a bit of canoe-dling?
Valentine’s day is just around the corner and usually I would write about candle-lit restaurants, boutique hotels and a whole host of other run-of-the-mill Valentine’s suggestions. While you would undoubtedly have a wonderful time and many people would be very happy with the chance to share excellent food and accommodation with their loved one sometimes you just want to do something out of the ordinary. Well, look no further. Nothing says ‘I love you’ like spending 3 hours in a canoe with the object of your affection. What could be more typically, British-ly romantic than messing about on a river???
That’s what I thought anyway and have booked an afternoon with the good folks at Experience Adventure in Aldwark near York. I got a brilliant deal off Groupon – £30 for two people for 3 hours – but it’s only available for 1 more day so be quick. Experience Adventure run their own deals too which are excellent value for money. Keep a look out for my review once we’ve had our romantic canoe trip.
If you really do just want to snuggle up in a cosy candle lit restaurant then you wont go far wrong at Grays Court which also has seven exquisitely romantic bedrooms. Further afield, I love The Durham Ox for food and romantic, cottage style, guest bedrooms and am dropping huge hints to my husband about trying chef Adam Jackson’s new restaurant The Park at Sutton on the Forest. Mwah xx
